New Rosette Rose & Rose Leaf Tools — Inspired by Real Roses

Rosette roses have layer upon layer of petals, creating the beautifully full, romantic look often seen in old garden roses.

To recreate this classic style in clay, I’ve created a new Rosette Rose Cutter, along with a Rose Leaf Cutter & Veiner designed to pair beautifully with this rose.

A Delicate Rosette Rose in a Lovely, Versatile Size

Large, dramatic roses and peonies are beautiful, but flowers of this size—around 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter—are especially easy to arrange and display.

A single stem looks lovely in a small vase, or several can be gathered together for a fuller arrangement. With their feminine, classic feel, these roses are also perfect for tea table settings and wedding styling.

These days, I often simply place the flowers I make in a vase and enjoy them as they are. But when I used to create floral arrangements, roses with this kind of look and size were some of the flowers I reached for often.

They are a lovely size for wreaths, bouquets, and table centerpieces, and they combine beautifully with other flowers and greenery.

This is another arrangement I made years ago, when I had an artificial flower shop. Paired with white flowers and greenery, the roses take on a softer, charming look.

Tracing the Petals from a Real Rose

As with many of my flower tools, I began by carefully taking apart a real rose, petal by petal, and tracing the shapes according to size.

I choose well-shaped petals to trace whenever possible, but natural petals are never exactly alike. Even when using the same cutter, you can create natural variation by changing the way each petal is curved and shaped, or by adjusting how much you thin and stretch the edges.

By varying the number of petals, the way they are assembled, and the curves you give them, you can also create many different expressions—from smaller blooms and softly opened roses to delicate buds.

Rose Leaves Inspired by an Old Garden Rose

The new Rose Leaf Cutter and Veiner were also created to complement the classic character of the rosette rose.

The original leaf was taken from an old garden rose. I wanted to capture its beautifully rounded shape and delicate vein details so they could be recreated naturally in clay.

The Leaf Cutter and Veiner are designed to match in size, so when used together, the vein texture reaches naturally across the leaf all the way to the edges.

A Different Look with Every Color

I also made one in warm orange tones, inspired by the original rose. Simply changing the color gives the flower a completely different character.

Vivid pink is lovely too.

I hope these new tools will be a lovely addition to your own flower-making projects.
